Our Team Members in their words.
Roula: I was born in Athens where I have lived till now with my family. I was a dentist for over 30 years and now I am retired. The first time I came to the Oikia Karapanou was 18 years ago with my two little daughters. In all these years I have regularly visited the place and attended workshops on Montessori education as well as other seminars and happenings, amongst which a training in another way of communication, The Way of Council, which was very inspiring for me. Since then I have been imagining circles everywhere: circles to solve my family's problems, circles to tell my neighbor that his dog is driving me crazy, circles to share my dreams with friends. In Athens I learned the re-evaluation counseling, which I practice in order to improve my way of thinking. I am very sensitive to young people's problems, especially in Greece. In my life two things that I really enjoy are swimming and reading a book at bedtime.
Vinciane: Coming to Aegina to bring my contribution to SOAR and its community has really been a call of the heart. I grew up in France where I always felt like the educational and professional system - at least the traditional one - didn't give much space to find your true desires, your dreams, and help you realize them. This inner agitation made me travel to Canada, where I studied Communication and group dynamics and found a genuine passion for Human relations and Community-building. I have now been living in Canada for 6 years, where I have been teaching Human relations through an experiential pedagogy. I love to include my passions in my practice, such as meditation, writing, free movement, circles, and more...
SOAR for me is a wonderful initiative and represents a true response to the challenges that we face today in our world, by giving young people a chance to make a journey to their inner freedom and pursue their greatest dreams...
Ilsa: For many years now the red thread in my life has been languages, teaching and photography. I always want to learn more, find new ways and ideas in order to become a better, inspiring teacher who makes a difference and to build bridges between people, cultures, countries… After a childhood in Germany, further growing up in the Paris of Amélie as well as in Spain and South America - collecting pictures, foreign words and music - I finally arrived in Greece, where I feel very much at home. I simply can't imagine being anywhere else right now.
It's now, on Aegina, where I want to follow my purpose and longings and give my best to my family and to SOAR. It's where I want to wake up every morning and watch my little boy open his eyes, before running out into the clean air of the new day, happy to learn and grow, in front of the sea, under ancient olive trees…
Rob: Arriving here three years ago to support a community-focused week with some council skills, it seems the people and the place have not stopped calling me. Here I find has now become a home of the heart. This inspiring initiative resembles a project I had a dream about a few years ago also in Greece, and offers me the chance to contribute in some various ways the skills and intentions that I carry for a better world, such as Way of Council, vision-fast and community-building. I have met and continue to meet many of the people I know as world workers through the connection and beauty that Karapanou and its ethos have established, and feel that SOAR is a natural progression worthwhile to help nurture in the coming times.
